This raspberry margarita is my go-to summer cocktail when I want something fruity, refreshing, and fast. It comes together in just 5 minutes and always impresses, whether you're hosting friends or sipping solo.

What's better than a margarita? A fresh raspberry margarita, of course! Adding fruit to cocktails is my favorite way to add some fresh flavor to an otherwise classic cocktail. Though this fruity margarita is great for this time of the year it can also be served as your next Christmas cocktail. Make this recipe in a large pitcher for all your guests to enjoy!
I LOVE margaritas, and this is my new favorite cocktail. Unlike typical fruit purees, the fresh fruit adds flavor and natural sugars while keeping a balanced cocktail. I like my margarita on the sour citrus side, so I'm always weary when adding flavors. Adding fresh berries is a great way to add a hint of flavor, turning your traditional margarita into a fruity cocktail.

🥘Ingredients
- Raspberries. You can use fresh or thawed frozen raspberries.
- Tequila. Use your favorite. I truly believe tequila is a personal preference but I prefer blanco tequila for cocktails.
- Triple sec. You can use any orange liqueur like Grand Marnier or triple sec.
- Lime juice. Use fresh lime juice. Sour mix is filled with added sugar which we now know equals a hangover.
- Ice cubes.
- Sparkling water. This can be optional, I like adding a little fizz to mine.

What tequila is best for a margarita?
Let's do a quick tequila lesson while we're here, shall we? Tequila blanco and silver tequila mean the same thing, different brands use different names. The darker the tequila gets, the longer it has aged. Therefore, giving it a smoother finish. So it goes blanco, reposado, joven, and anejo.
- Blanco is aged for a short time.
- Reposado is aged between 2-12 months in oak barrels.
- Joven is a mixture of blanco and reposado tequilas (less common).
- Anejo is aged in oak barrels for 1-3 years.
My number one rule when buying tequila is to buy anything that is 100% agave. If it is not 100% agave nectar it is most likely tequila-flavored liquor which means sugar. Yes, all those nasty hangovers you've gotten from tequila were probably because of the added sugar content. You can find blanco tequila for your cocktails at a great price and for sipping pleasure, opt for a reposado or even better, anejo.
The classic margarita was invented in Mexico in the 1930s. The original recipe only contained 3 ingredients: tequila, triple sec, and lime juice. Nowadays agave syrup is added to sweeten. Since this margarita is using fresh raspberries we will forgo the agave as well.
🔪Instructions
Step 1: Add the raspberries and a ½ ounce of orange liqueur to each of the rocks glasses.
Step 2: Muddle the raspberries into the orange liqueur.
Step 3: Pour in 3 ounces of tequila and squeeze in the fresh lime juice.
Step 4: Stir to combine.
Step 5: Top up each glass with soda water.
Step 6: Garnish with more lime and raspberries, serve and enjoy!
Why do I need to shake a cocktail?
There are a few different reasons you shake a cocktail. To mix, to chill, to dilute, or to froth. For a margarita we are chilling and mixing so we can shake with medium force for about 8 seconds. For a cocktail like a vodka martini, we shake to chill and to dilute, making this shake longer and harder. For a cocktail like an espresso martini, we are shaking to mix, chill AND froth. For this, we shake long (the movement is long) and hard for about 20 seconds.

Yes! Even better for these hot days. A frozen raspberry margarita is easy to whip up. Just add the same ingredients to a blender and blend until it reaches your desired texture. Use frozen raspberries for a colder blend. If you prefer frozen drinks, try my Piña Colada.
The ingredients. Fresh ingredients are always best in my opinion. The perfect cocktail is a balance between, 2 parts spirit, 1 part sweet and 1 part sour. Using fresh ingredients allows you to control how much of each you're putting in. Making for your perfect cocktail every time.
Yes! The more the better in my opinion. If you want to make a big batch there is an option to make 2, 4, or 6 margaritas. For the rules of thumb, each margarita comes out to about 3 ounces without ice. Know the size of your pitcher and do the math accordingly. Ingredients
- ¼ cup raspberries
- 1 ounce orange liqueur
- 3 ounces tequila
- 1 lime, juiced
- Ice
- Sparkling water
- Extra raspberries, for garnish
- Lime wedges, for garnish
Instructions
- Divide the raspberries between two rocks glasses. Pour ½ ounce of orange liqueur into each glass. OR add all of the raspberries and orange liqueur to a cocktail shaker.
- Muddle the raspberries in the glasses or shaker with the orange liqueur.
- Pour in the tequila (evenly divide between the glasses or add it all to the shaker) and lime juice.
- Add ice to the glasses or shaker and stir or shake to combine.
- Top each cocktail off with sparkling water. Garnish with more raspberries and lime wedges.
