Made with just a few ingredients this classic sour cocktail can be whipped up and served in minutes. Tequila, fresh lime juice, and agave nectar are combined with a good shake and served over ice for a fresh taste.
Yes, it's super similar to a classic margarita but we're skipping the orange liqueur or triple sec! Sometimes it's refreshing to have a good tequila be at the forefront of your sipping experience.
Tequila and fresh citrus just make sense! A tequila sour is just one of many in the family of sour cocktails but it's oh so good. If you're into tequila and need some more ideas try my fresh raspberry margarita, spicy cucumber margarita, or a spicy sweet grapefruit margarita.
What is a sour cocktail?
Your typical sour cocktail has a base liquor, lemon or lime juice, and a sweetener. There are several different ways to make a sour cocktail. Whether it's a whiskey sour, pisco sour, boston sour, amaretto sour or a tequila sour the premise of the cocktail remains intact. Raw egg whites are commonly used in sours to create a beautiful foamy frothy head.
🌟Why You'll Love this Recipe
- Simple ingredients. This sour is made with just 3 simple ingredients.
- Refreshing cocktail. Fresh citrus juice mixed with your favorite tequila and agave nectar for a refresh in a glass.
- Tasty drink. Less is more in this simple but tasty cocktail.
🥘Ingredients

- Tequila. I prefer using a reposado tequila but any tequila will do. Try it with blanco tequila or añejo tequila.
- Fresh lime juice. Use fresh limes or buy a bottle of fresh lime juice for that desired fresh flavor.
- Simple syrup or agave nectar. Make homemade simple syrup or use storebought. Agave nectar (usually found in the baking aisle) also works in this recipe and brings sweetness and balance to a lot of cocktail recipes.
