🌟Why You'll Love this Recipe
- Won't heat up the kitchen. One of the best things about using the air fryer instead of the oven is it cooks your food without heating up the kitchen. Great for hot summer nights or a quick and easy snack.
- Can serve as the main protein or an appetizer. I love serving these chicken sausages as an easy appetizer with mustard for dipping or on a roll as Sausage and Peppers for a complete meal.
- Easy enough for air fryer beginners. If you were just gifted an air fryer and are intimidated to use it, starting with a simple recipe like this one is a great place to start. You may enjoy my other Beginner Air Fryer Recipes, too!
🥘Ingredients and Substitutions
- Chicken sausage - Use your favorite chicken sausages here. I used Spicy Italian, but any of Aidell's Chicken sausage are a popular choice and will work great. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may be able to cook more than 4 sausages at once, if desired.
📖Variations
- How to air fry frozen sausages: If your chicken sausages are frozen, you can either defrost them overnight in the refrigerator or air fry them from frozen for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the internal temperature of the chicken sausages reads 165 degrees F.
- How to reheat chicken sausages: If you previously cooked your chicken sausages on the grill, in the oven, or even in the air fryer, reheating the sausage in the air fryer is the best way to keep them warm and crispy. To reheat sausages, preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees F. Once hot, add the sausages and cook for about 5-8 minutes, or until the sausages are warmed through.
- How to cook chicken sausages in the oven: If you are using your air fryer to cook your other side dishes like Frozen Brussels Sprouts or Smashed Potatoes, you may want to cook your chicken sausages in the oven. If so, try my method for cooking Easy Italian Sausage in the oven!
🔪Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer. Some models of air fryer will say that a preheat is unnecessary. However, I'd always recommend it when making chicken sausages to help them get a nice sear on the outside!
- Add the sausages in a single layer. Space them evenly so they can cook through with proper air circulation.
- Air fry. Cook for 10 minutes, flip the sausages and cook for another 5-10 minutes.
- Serve. Remove the sausages from the air fryer basket and serve whole on rolls or cut up.
💭Recipe FAQs
Cooked sausages will last 3 to 4 days when stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container. Check out this post for more storage tips and how to tell if cooked sausage is bad.
It depends. Most pre-packed chicken sausages in stores are precooked, however, this is not always the case. If your package of sausages does not say that they are pre-cooked, take extra care to ensure the internal temperature of the sausage reads 165 degrees F before serving. It is good to also note that precooked chicken should still be cooked through completely before eating.
Yes, once the sausage has been cooked through completely, it is safe to eat both warm and cold.

👩🏻🍳Chef Tips
- Know your air fryer. Not all air fryers are the same and will require timing adjustments. If your air fryer tends to run on the hotter side and easily overcooks proteins, your sausage may be ready after just 10 minutes of cooking.
- Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket. For the best, crispy sausages, they need space between them to allow the air to circulate.
