Why You'll Love this Recipe
- Warm weather cooking. One of the best things about using the air fryer instead of the oven is it cooks your food without heating the kitchen. Great for hot summer nights or a quick and easy snack.
- Main dish or an appetizer. I love serving these chicken sausages as an easy appetizer with mustard for dipping or on a roll as Sausage and Peppers for a complete meal.
- Done in just minutes. Air fryer chicken sausages take just 10 minutes to make.
Ingredients
- Chicken sausage. Use your favorite chicken sausages here. Most chicken sausages come pre-cooked, but you can also use raw chicken sausages. I used spicy Italian, but any of Aidell's Chicken sausages are a popular choice and will work great. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may be able to cook more than 4 sausages at once, if desired.
Variations
- How to air fry raw chicken sausages: Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees F, and spray the air fryer basket with oil. Add the sausages and cook for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway through. Use a meat thermometer to be sure the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F.
- How to air fry frozen sausages: If your chicken sausages are frozen, you can either defrost them overnight in the fridge or air fry them from frozen for an additional 5-10 minutes or until the internal temperature of the chicken sausages reads 165 degrees F.
Instructions
- Some models of air fryers will say that a preheat is unnecessary. However, I'd always recommend it when making chicken sausages to help them get a nice sear on the outside!
- Add the sausages in a single layer. Space them evenly so they can cook through with proper air circulation.
- Cook for 10 minutes, flip the sausages and cook for another 5-10 minutes.
- Serve whole on rolls or cut up.
Sarah's Top Tips
- Not all air fryers are the same and will require timing adjustments. If your air fryer tends to run on the hotter side and easily overcooks proteins, your sausage may be ready after just 10 minutes of cooking.
- Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket. For the best, crispy sausages, they need space between them to allow the air to circulate.
- Use olive oil or cooking oil to spray the basket to prevent sausages from sticking.
Serving
The uses for chicken sausage are almost limitless. They're great for breakfast, lunch, dinner, a high-protein snack, and a delicious appetizer. Serve over pasta dishes like Tomato and Spinach Pasta, Italian Pink Sauce or my Authentic Italian Pasta Sauce. These air fryer sausages are great in a roll with a side of Air Fryer Seasoned Fries.
Storage & Reheating
Leftover chicken sausage will last 3-4 days when stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container. To reheat sausages, preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees F. Add the sausages and cook for about 5-8 minutes, or until the sausages are warmed through.
