- I love serving these air fryer sausage and peppers in a hoagie roll. It reminds me of getting a sausage and peppers sandwich at a baseball game or from a street cart. If you prefer your sausage without a bun, check out my Air Fryer Chicken Sausage recipe.
🥘Ingredients and Substitutions

- Sausages- I've used both spicy and sweet Italian sausages in this recipe. You can use turkey, chicken or pork sausage, just make sure it is uncooked. If you are a fan of brats, try brats in the air fryer next.
- Bell peppers- I prefer green pepper and a red pepper but any color will work for this recipe.
- Rolls- use hoagie rolls, hot dog rolls, potato buns or brioche buns. Any kind of roll will work.
See the recipe card below for the remaining ingredients and quantities.
🔪Instructions

Step 1: Slice the peppers and the onion. Add them to a large bowl and season with salt, black pepper and olive oil.

Step 2: Add the vegetables and sausages to the air fryer. Cook for 10 minutes, flip the sausages and cook for another 10 minutes.
💭Recipe FAQs
Chicken sausage is done in the air fryer when it reaches an internal temperature of 160 degrees F. You can use a meat thermometer to check the temperature. If using pork sausage, the internal temperature should be 155 degrees F.
It depends on your air fryer model. I recommend looking at your air fryer manual. I use a NuWave air fryer and I do preheat mine as I would my oven.
Yes, feel free to use other vegetables such as mushrooms, zucchini or eggplant.

👩🏻🍳Chef Tips
- Air fryer temperature. I cooked the sausage and veggies at 400 degrees F in my air fryer. If your air fryer tends to run hotter, set it to 375 degrees F instead.
- Cook time. This recipe calls for cooking the peppers, onion and sausage at the same time. If you prefer your veggies to be softer, cook them for 5-8 minutes longer than the sausage.
- Substitutions and variations. If you prefer to use pre-cooked sausage, you will need to reduce the cooking time to about 10 minutes, just until the sausages are browned. Instead of red and green peppers, you can use orange or yellow.
- If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days. Reheat in the microwave for about 1-2 minutes. If you're wondering if your chicken sausage is bad, check out this post on how long cooked sausage lasts.

🥗Serving
Serve the air-fried sausage and peppers in a bun with mustard, marinara sauce and/or mozzarella cheese for a great-tasting sandwich. They can also be served over pasta, rice or mashed potatoes.
